Từ trung tâm thị trấn Sapa nhộn nhịp, đi dọc theo con đường phố Cầu Mây, sau đó rẽ sang phố Mường Hoa đến với bản Lao Chải-Tả Van, ẩn hiện trong sương mây là những thửa ruộng bậc thang trải trên các sườn đồi như những dải lụa đầy sắc màu của thiên nhiên.

Nằm ở thung lũng suối Mường Hoa, đây là quần thể ruộng bậc thang đẹp và lớn nhất Sa Pa với tổng diện tích gần 1.000ha. Lao Chải – Tả Van là tuyến đi bộ thú vị và đẹp nhất ở Sapa,bạn có thể đi từ bản Cát Cát qua thung lũng Mường Hoa đến Lao Chải – nơi sinh sống của người H’Mông Hoa, trên đường ngắm cảnh sinh hoạt, cuộc sống thường ngày của người dân bản địa. Cuối cùng từ Lao Chải đi qua Tả Van, nơi có người Dáy sinh sống, có thung lũng ruộng bậc thang đẹp mê hồn.

Cũng như ở những vùng núi Tây Bắc khác, ruộng bậc thang ở Sapa có hai mùa đẹp và cuốn hút nhất đó là mùa nước đổ, khiến toàn bộ không gian trông như những bức tranh thuỷ mặc khổng lồ. Không chỉ thế, mùa lúa chín vàng đẹp như mơ như một tấm áo choàng khoác lên núi đồi cũng làm say lòng bao người.
